  1. President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the Nari Shakti Puraskar 2020 and 2021 at a special ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on occasion of International Women’s Day. The award was conferred on 29 outstanding and exceptional women achievers in recognition of their exceptional work towards empowerment of women.

  2. PM Modi has called ‘Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav Abhiyan’ “an exemplary effort which will ensure more girls get the joys of education”. He also asked for efforts to make the movement a success. The campaign is a mission to ensure every young girl is allowed to pursue education and skilling.
  3. Union Minister for Power RK Singh on 08 Mar launched the Virtual Smart Grid Knowledge Center (SGKC) and Innovation Park virtually as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Programme.
  4. Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog on 08 Mar announced their partnership with Snap Inc. to drive Augmented Reality (AR) skilling among the Indian youth.
    NITI Aayog in a statement said that over a two-year timeframe, Snap Inc is expected to train over 12,000 teachers affiliated with the Atal Tinkering Labs on Augmented Reality, enabling the reach of the program to millions of students affiliated with ATL’s network of schools.
  5. Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has said that women are given a pivotal role under the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ as they are the primary stakeholders. The minister said that they are involved in the programme from the very beginning. He added that they are part of planning and monitoring and receive training to undertake water quality testing from time-to-time.

Chandrayaan-2 mission : According to the Indian Space Research Organisation, Chandra’s Atmospheric Composition Explorer-2 (CHACE-2) that is a quadrupole mass spectrometer onboard Chandrayaan-2 mission, has made the first-of-its-kind observations in the tenuous lunar exosphere of the global distribution of Argon-40.
  7. ANDHRA PRADESH Assembly is likely to hold a discussion on the “Doctrine of Separation of Powers” in the light of the judgment of the AP High Court on the Amaravati/Three Capitals issue.
  8. ASSAM : The police have recovered 22 pressure bombs along with 22 detonator caps, 16 HE36 grenades, two UZI rifles with four magazines and one silencer from Mahamaya and Guma reserve forest areas in Assam. The weapons were hidden underground and police suspect that the recovered weapons belong to the former National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants.
  9. DELHI CM Arvind Kejriwal on 08 Mar honoured Gauri Sawant, a transgender activist from Mumbai who has been helping transgender people. Sawant’s petition in the Supreme Court helped in the recognition of transgender as the third gender. Kejriwal also lauded the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) for instilling a sense of security among women in the national capital.

  11. MAHARASHTRA : Mumbai police’s women personnel will get eight-hour shifts from 08 Mar 2022, to coincide with International Women’s Day, an order issued by Commissioner Sanjay Pandey said.
  12. PUNJAB CM Charanjit Singh Channi met Home Minister Amit Shah on 06 Mar and raised the issue of change in rules for appointment of top officers in Bhakra Beas Management Board and the safe return of Punjab students stuck in war-hit Ukraine.
  13. Mohali District Court on Tuesday extended Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia’s judicial custody in a drug smuggling probe till March 22. He had been earlier remanded to judicial custody till March 8 after being booked under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in December. Majithia contested Punjab Assembly polls from Amritsar East seat.
  14. RAJASTHAN : Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived in Jaipur on Monday to discuss the post-poll scenario with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, ahead of the assembly poll results in five states on March 10.
  15. TELANGANA : Finance minister T. Harish Rao on 07 Mar presented a ‘KCR mark budget’ with higher allocations to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) government’s flagship schemes and a revenue surplus of `3,754 crore, in the Legislative Assembly. The total budget outlay has been pegged at Rs 2.56 lakh crore, up from last year’s budget of Rs 2.31 lakh crore.
  16. Finance minister T. Harish Rao highlighted the new scheme, Mana Ooru Mana Badi, also called Mana Basti Mana Badi in urban areas, which focuses on introducing the English medium and improving infrastructure in all govt schools.

Speaking on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Singh added, “The machine doesn’t recognize gender, it acts as per the inputs given to it.” She said the experience of becoming a fighter pilot has been thrilling and satisfying.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he’s no longer pressing for NATO membership for Ukraine, an issue that was one of Russia’s stated reasons for invasion. “I’ve cooled down regarding this question a long time ago after we understood NATO isn’t prepared to accept Ukraine,” he stated. “The alliance is afraid of controversial things, and confrontation with Russia,” the President added.
  3. Romania’s Health Minister Alexandru Rafila on Tuesday said the country will lift all COVID-19 restrictions from March 9, including an obligation to wear masks both indoors and outdoors.
  4. US President Joe Biden has decided to ban Russian oil imports, he said during a live address as he announced actions to continue to hold Russia accountable over invasion of Ukraine. “We’re banning all imports of Russian oil and gas and energy. That means Russian oil will no longer be accepted at US ports,” he stated.
  5. Latvian politician Juris Jurašs has joined the fight against Russia in Ukraine, his party confirmed on Tuesday. It was Jurašs’ “personal decision” to fight alongside Ukrainian soldiers, Latvian Justice Minister Jānis Bordāns said without revealing more information citing safety concerns. Last week, the Ukrainian President said that around 16,000 foreigners had volunteered to fight for Ukraine.
  6. Pakistan’s Opposition parties have moved a no-confidence motion seeking the ouster of PM Imran Khan and accused him of mismanaging the economy and poor governance. “Resign in 24 hours…face us in…election,” Pakistan Peoples Party leader Bilawal Bhutto said during a rally.

Why does charcoal burn even though it is wood cinders?

A. This is because charcoal is not wood cinders but is made by burning wood slowly in an oven with little air, turning it into carbon.

Wood is made of fiber (cellulose) and minerals (metals).

When wood is burned, oxygen and other elements in the air (mainly carbon, hydrogen and oxygen) react to form carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere, while the minerals turn into ashes.

However when wood is burned in an oven with the flow of air stopped, oxygen inside is soon used up and is not enough to oxidize the carbon in the wood. Thus the carbon is left to turn into charcoal.

Who is Lord Dattatreya?
Lord Dattatreya is the son of great Sage Atri Muni, whose wife was Ansuiya Mata, the most chaste Lady. Lord Dattatreya is considered as the Supreme Being Lord Vishnu with three heads.

Atri Muni was the Manas son of Lord Brahma Ji and his wife was Mata Ansuiya. Mata Ansuiya was most chaste Pativrata wife. She had got several divine powers due to her Bhakti of her husband Atri Muni. She had powers due to her Bhakti of her husband to stop even the Sun-Moon and earth rotations.

All gods wives were jealous of Mata Ansuiya due to her Pati Bhakti. Her Pati-bhakti gossip was famous even in Dev Lok and heaven. One day, Bhagwaan Shiva told this to his wife Parvati about the popularity of Mata Ansuiya. At this, Mata Parvati raged and asked Lord Shiva to take test of Mata Ansuiya.

So, finally, Bhagwaan Vishnu decided to go to the Ashram of Atri Muni along with Lord Shiva and Lord Braham Ji to take test of her Pati Vrata. Three Supreme being reached disguised of Saints and asked alms from Mata Ansuiya. She immediately went inside her Ashram for some grains, but Three Devas, objected to accept the alms from Mata Ansuiya. Three Supreme Personalities, asked Mata Ansuiya that they will accept alms only after if she comes totally nude.

Mata Ansuiay at this condition, understood everything, the plot of Supreme Personality Lord Vishnu and Lord Shvia. She also identified three Bhagwaans immediately and She took the Sankalp and made thee Devas as her tiny child of about one year of age. Bhagwaan became the son of Mata Ansuiya and three began to play at the Ashram of Atri Muni. When Mata Parvati and Lakshmai noticed this, They were amazed and reached the Ashram. But three Bhagwaans like sons of Atri Muni were pleased and mata Ansuiya also treated them as her own sons.

Mata Ansuiya welcomed her daughter in- laws at her Ashram and at the request of her daugther-in-laws, she returned her sons for their abode Param Dham, which shocking feelings. Bhagwaan Vishnu, assured her that from that day, he would be her son as Dattatreaya, because he was not born, but adopted and they came to take test of Mata Ansuiya
