- GUJARAT : Huge explosion and fire have been reported at Deepak Nitrite Company’s plant located at Nandesari Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) in Vadodara. Fire tenders have been rushed to the spot as 10 people have reportedly been hurt and many are feared trapped. The Vadodara Highway has been closed off due to the fire.
- Gujarat Patidar leader Hardik Patel, who recently quit Congress, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday.
- J&K : Kashmiri Pandits, including the employees who were given jobs under a PM’s package for the community, held protests and threatened mass migration after targeted killings in J&K. Many of them have left the valley, according to reports. A 26-year-old bank manager from Rajasthan was shot dead inside the bank by a terrorist on Thursday.
- Vijay Kumar, a bank manager who was shot dead by a terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam on Thursday, is eighth victim of targeted killings in Kashmir since May 1. On May 31, a female teacher was shot dead at a school in Kulgam. A man was killed after terrorists attacked a newly-opened wine shop in Baramulla on May 17.
- KARNATAKA : The hijab row has resurfaced in yet another college in the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada, forcing the authorities to suspend six students for wearing the headscarf, despite repeated warnings.
- MAHARASHTRA : The CBI has filed a charge sheet against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and others in a ₹100-crore bribery case, officials said. This comes after a special CBI court allowed dismissed Mumbai Police officer Sachin Vaze to turn an approver and seek pardon in the case. Deshmukh and his two staffers were arrested by the CBI in April.
- MADHYA PRADESH A 36-year-old Right. to Information (RTI) activist Ranjeet Soni was shot dead by unidentified persons in broad daylight outside the Public Works Department (PWD) office in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha on Thursday.
- PUNJAB govt on Thursday decided to restore the security of all the 434 protectees (from 7 June) in the state whose cover it had pruned. The development comes days after popular Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moose Wala — whose security was curtailed by the AAP government — was shot dead in a daring daylight murder.

- Yes Bank is planning to sell a pool of stressed assets worth ₹48,000 crore to US-based JC Flowers Asset Reconstruction Company (ARC), BQ Prime reported. JC Flowers has agreed to place a ₹12,400-crore bid against the stressed assets on sale, ensuring a 25% recovery. Yes Bank will have to invest ₹300-400 crore in the ARC as part of the deal.
- The Centre for Development of Telematics has signed an agreement with WiSig Networks Private Limited and VVDN Technologies Private Limited for collaboration in the area of Open RAN-based Radio Network for 5G solution.

- External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Slovakia and the Czech Republic from June 2 to 6 to impart further momentum to bilateral relations with the two Central European countries.
- The 118th meeting, comprising Indus Commissioners of India and Pakistan in progress.
- The Indus Water Treaty was signed between India and Pakistan in 1960. India said it is committed to bilateral resolution of issues and suggestions given by Pakistan during a meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission.
- Enforcement Directorate (ED), in its chargesheet filed in PMLA court, has stated that the Popular Front of India (PFI) raised funds from China and is involved in terror funding. ED stated that PFI is also involved in illegal activities like anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests, inciting violence in the Delhi riots and making posters related to Babri Masjid.
- The bodies of four Indians, who were among 22 people killed in Tara Air flight crash on May 29, were cremated at Kathmandu’s Pashupatinath temple on Thursday. The deceased, Ashok Kumar Tripathi and his estranged wife Vaibhavi, were onboard the flight with their children as the family was on a court-ordered holiday. Ashok’s relatives were present for the last rites.

- Pakistan increases petrol, diesel prices by 17% to control fiscal deficit: Now petrol will be priced at 209.86 PKR, diesel at 204.15 PKR, kerosene oil at 181.94 PKR and light diesel at 178.31 PKR.
- A Pakistani court has granted ex-PM Imran Khan pre-arrest bail till June 25 in cases related to violence that erupted during his Azadi March last month.
- Sri Lanka is seeking to avail around $5 billion in funding to cover repayments of fuel imports and other items bought through credit lines.
- North Korea has taken over as the rotating head of the UN-backed Conference on Disarmament. The country, which is currently under sanctions for developing nuclear weapons in defiance of UNSC regulations, gained the presidency as the role rotates in an alphabetical manner among its 65 members. North Korea has conducted over 10 ballistic missile tests since January this year.
- The number of people displaced within Myanmar has exceeded 1 million for the first time, UN’s new report has stated. The figure includes almost 7 lakh people displaced by violence and insecurity since military seized power in a coup last year.
- Russia now occupies about 20% of Ukraine’s territory, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said while addressing Luxembourg’s Parliament on Thursday.

Hirakud is the longest earthen Dam in the world and stands across the mighty river, Mahanadi, in the Sambalpur region of Odisha. It was the first major multipurpose river valley project after India’s Independence in 1947.
This human-made structure is located 15 km north of Sambalpur – its majesty only rivaled by the sparkling waters of the river it stands on. With an area of 1,33,090 sq km, the Dam is more than twice the area of Sri Lanka. The main Hirakud Dam has an overall length of 4.8 km (3.0 mi), stretching across the Laxmidungri hills on the left and the cv Chandili Dunguri hills on the right .
