Why New Year is Celebrated

In the Gregorian calendar, New Year’s Eve (also known as Old Year’s Day or Saint Sylvester’s Day in many countries), the last day of the year, is on 31 December.

New Year’s celebration stems from the ancient, two-faced, Roman god Janus – for whom the month of January is also named. One face of Janus looked back into the past, and the other peered forward to the future.

अतिरोषणश्चक्षुष्मानन्ध एव जनः।
atiroṣaṇaścakṣuṣmānandha eva janaḥ।

An exceedingly angry person is blind even when possessing eyes.

अत्यन्त क्रोधी व्यक्ति आँखें रखते हुए भी अन्धा होता है।

The submarine operates using the Archimedes’ principle by manipulating the buoyancy. The buoyancy is controlled by the ballast tank system. A submarine resting on the surface has positive buoyancy, which means it is less dense than the water around it and will float.

1 common year = 365 days = (365 days) × (24 hours/day)
= 8760 hours

One calendar leap year has 366 days – occures every 4 years, when February has 29 days:

1 leap year = 366 days = (366 days) / (24 hours/day)
= 8784 hours

One mean calendar year has 8765.82 hours:

1 mean year = (365+1/4-1/100+1/400) days = (365.2425 days) × (24 hours/day)

= 8765.82 hours
