  8. HIMACHAL : Modi has said that due to the trinity of Jan Dhan-Aadhaar and Mobile (JAM), the money is reaching the beneficiary directly in their Jan Dhan bank accounts. He said this while addressing the ‘Garib Kalyan Sammelan’ at historic Ridge Maidan in Shimla.
  9. J&K : Locals and activists staged a candlelight protest in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar against the increased targeted killing of civilians in the union territory. The protest was held after a teacher, identified as Rajni, was killed by terrorists at a school in the Gopalpora area of Kulgam. Protesters held placards, candles during the protest.

  12. PUNJAB govt on Wednesday decided to abolish the physical stamp papers in an attempt to bring efficiency and check the pilferage of State revenue. Punjab Revenue Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa launched the ‘e-stamp facility’ .
    • Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, said to be involved in the murder of singer Sidhu Moose Wala, will move Punjab and Haryana High Court with plea to not give his custody to Punjab Police. Bishnoi is lodged in Tihar jail on multiple charges.
    • Canada-based Goldy Brar has claimed responsibility for Moose Wala’s murder. Brar is a close aide of Bishnoi.
    • Moose Wala’s murder is being linked to the turf war between the gangs of Bishnoi and Davinder Bambiha. He was shot dead in an encounter in 2016 and his gang is now run by Lucky Patiyal, who is jailed in Armenia

  1. Crude oil price crossed the $117 mark on Wednesday after European Union agreed to a phased ban on Russian oil and as China ended its COVID-19 lockdown in Shanghai. While Brent crude rose $1.80 to $117.40/barrel, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was up $1.63 to $116.30/barrel at 6:03 pm. May is the sixth consecutive month recording rising crude oil prices.
  2. Meta Platforms’ Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sheryl Sandberg has announced she’s stepping down from her position. Meta’s Chief Growth Officer Javier Olivan will take over as COO.

  2. Post-mortem conducted on Bollywood singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, (53 yrs) popularly known as KK, indicates that he died due to cardiac arrest, said police. The singer had passed away on Tuesday following a live concert in Kolkata. His body was brought to Mumbai on Wednesday and his funeral will be held today.
  3. Singer Sidhu Moosewala’s father arrived in Kiratpur Sahib to immerse his son’s mortal remains. A large crowd gathered at Kiratpur Sahib to pay their respects to the singer.
  4. A special court in Mumbai permitted Rhea Chakraborty, an accused in a drugs case, to travel to Abu Dhabi from June 2-5 to attend IIFA Awards

The order worth Rs 2,971 crore for ASTRA MK-I Beyond Visual Range (BVR) Air to Air Missile (AAM) was signed with Bharat Dynamics Limited for an undisclosed number of missiles. These will be fitted onboard Su 30 MKI fighter jets of the Indian Air Force as well as the naval MiG 29K/KUB carrier borne combat aircraft.

  1. The government’s sugar exports ban has come into effect starting 01 Jun till the end of the festive season in October. India is the largest producer of sugar in the world.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, who is on the first leg of his three-nation tour of Gabon, Senegal and Qatar, held wide-ranging talks with the Central African country’s top leadership and business leaders and called for exploring bilateral cooperation in green energy, services, health and agriculture among other sectors.
    • Vice President Venkaiah Naidu held delegation level talks with PM of Gabon, Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda in Libreville.
  4. China on 01June said it is ready to take measures to advance normal trade with India amid reports that U.S. has replaced China as India’s biggest trading partner for the financial year 2021-22
  5. Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif seeks to forge partnership between Pakistan and India, talks about mutually beneficial trade. He was responding to a question about trade with India in an interview with Turkish media.
  6. Turkish authorities denied permission to an Indian wheat consignment over phytosanitary concerns, prompting a ship to initiate its return journey on May 29.

The wheat consignment was detected with Indian Rubella disease and was rejected by the Turkish ministry of agriculture and forestry, traders were quoted as saying by S&P Global Commodity Insights on Tuesday.

  1. US President Joe Biden has announced that America will send more advanced rocket systems to Ukraine. According to media reports, new weaponry will include the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).
  2. Iran dismissed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s latest report on the country’s stockpile of enriched uranium. Iran’s Foreign Ministry in a statement said that it is not fair and does not reflect the truth about the talks between Iran and the agency.
  3. Qatar Prince Abdelaziz bin Khalifa Al-Thani’s former wife Kasia Gallanio has been found dead at her home in Spain. Spanish officials suspect the 45-year-old died of a drug overdose. Gallanio, who married the Qatari royal in 2004, had fought legal battle over custody of their three daughters for 10 years after allegations that he sexually assaulted their eldest child.
  4. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) on Tuesday revised rules for flight permits after 22 people were killed in Tara Air plane crash on Sunday. According to new rules, flight permits will be granted after en-route weather conditions, along with weather at source and destination airports, are looked into. Preliminary probe has indicated that poor weather led to crash.
  5. Sri Lanka is in talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to borrow $3 billion under the latter’s Extended Fund Facility, Reuters reported. Sri Lanka expects another round of technical talks with IMF in early June and hopes to reach a staff-level agreement by June-end

Nikhat Zarren created history by winning a gold medal at the 12th edition of the Woman’s World Boxing Championship in Istanbul. Fighting in the 52kg final, the Nikhat Zareen vs Jutamas Jitpong ended in the Indian boxer’s favour with the scorecard reading 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28.l

Nikhat Zareen became the only fifth Indian woman to win a gold medal in the World Boxing Championships with previous winners being Mary Kom, Sarita Devi (2006), Jenny RL (2006) and Lekha KC (2006). However couple of years back both Mary Kom and Nikhat Zareen were engaged in a war of words over the Olympic selection trial.

According to Shiva Purana: MOON God marries 27 daughters of Daksha, in which he moon spends most of his time with Rohini

Daksha becomes angry on his Son-in-law for neglecting his other daughters, so cursed the Moon, that his body would perish. Fearing he would cease to exist, Chandra rushed to Lord Shiva for help to protect him from Daksha’s curse. To save Chandra from perishing, Lord Shiva asked him to take refuge in his locks .

Hence Shiva is also known as Chandrashekhar . The Lord is also known as Somnath (or protector of Som). The moon wanes and waxes time and again owing to Daksha’s curse and Shiva’s blessings.
