  23. WEST BENGAL : Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a protest in Kolkata against the alleged irregularities in the SSC recruitment process and the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The police used water cannons and barricades to stop the protesters.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Imphal organised a one day media workshop Vartalap on improving government information dissemination to media while sensitizing them on various schemes and projects.

Named Surat and Udaygiri, and both frontline vessels, the ships will go through rigorous sea trials before they can be commissioned into the Navy, after which they will add the INS prefix to their names.

In Assam, rescue and relief operations have been intensified by the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local administrations in flood-hit areas. Over four lakh people have been affected due to floods and landslides in 26 districts while eight persons lost their lives.

  1. The first vessel carrying relief materials as announced by the Tamil Nadu Govt for Sri Lanka left from Chennai Port on 18 May.

It was flagged off by Chief Minister MK Stalin. The relief materials that have been dispatched include:-
a). 9000 metric tonnes of rice,
b). 200 tonnes of milk powder
c). 24 tonnes of essential medicines.

They are being sent to help the public in the neighbouring nation that is reeling under economic stress.
