Article – 345 Official language or languages of a State.

Subject to the provisions of articles 346 and 347, the Legislature of a State may by law adopt any one or more of the languages in use in the State or Hindi as the language or languages to be used for all or any of the official purposes of that State:
Provided that, until the Legislature of the State otherwise provides by law, the English language shall continue to be used for those official purposes within the State for which it was being used immediately before the commencement of this Constitution.

  1. Recently the Madhya Pradesh High Court passed an interim order directing print media and social media platforms to remove derogatory content against spiritual leader Aacharya Shri Dhirendra Krishna Shastri.  (Ranjit Singh Patel v State)
  2. The principal bench of Bombay High Court will begin auto-listing freshly filed cases before specific judges starting from December 11 on a trial basis.
  3. On Thursday Fantasy sports platform Dream 11 has withdrawn its plea before the Bombay High Court which had challenged show cause notices issued by the authorities for the alleged evasion of Goods and Services Tax (GST) amounting to over ₹1,200 crore, exclusive of interest and penalty.

  6. On Thursday the Supreme Court declined to entertain a miscellanous application (MA) seeking enforcement of its guidelines for state-imposed internet shutdowns.
  7. On Wednesday the Delhi High Court remarked that judges in the trial courts are compelled to sit in their chambers due to the lack of sufficient public prosecutors in the lower judiciary.
  8. Recently the Karnataka High Court constituted a ten member committee to restore amiable relations between advocates, police and the district administration in Chikmagalur in the wake of an attack on a young lawyer by certain police officers, allegedly over a traffic violation.
  9. Recently the Punjab & Haryana High Court imposed costs of ₹30,000 on a school that erroneously awarded zero marks to a Class X student in her Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams.  (Riya v. State)
  10. On Thursday Four retired Indian Army personnel have moved a public interest litigation (PIL) petition before the Karnataka High Court seeking a ban on election freebies.

  13. On Thursday the Kerala High Court highlighted the security offered by the virtual hearing platform VConsol Court, from cyber attacks.
  14. On Thursday the Supreme Court asked the Central government to submit details on the number of immigrants who were conferred Indian citizenship through Section 6A(2) of the Citizenship Act, 1955.

Recently the Delhi High Court observed that Courts must be alive to socio-economic factors that may sometimes drive people to compromise on getting justice while upholding a man’s conviction for the sexual assault of a 14-year-old-boy despite a settlement by the victim’s family with the accused.  (Vicky v State)

  17. On Thursday A petition has been filed before the Kerala High Court seeking legal action against a Magistrate for revealing the name of a rape survivor in an order.
  18. On Thursday the Calcutta High Court stayed the First Information Report (FIR) lodged against ten Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) booked for insulting the National Anthem.  (Sankar Ghosh vs State of West Bengal)
  19. On Wednesday the Advocate Prashant Bhushan on Wednesday wrote to the Supreme Court Registry raising grievance over a matter concerning cases against two advocates and a journalist being listed before a bench presided by Justice Bela M Trivedi.
  20. Recently the Delhi High Court held that neither the legislature nor the traditional Hindu Law in any way limits the rights of a woman to be a Karta (head) of a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF).  (Manu Gupta v Sujata Sharma & Ors)
  21. On Thursday the Supreme Court took suo motu cognisance of an October order of the Calcutta High Court which said that adolescent girls must control their sexual urges instead of ‘giving in to two minutes of pleasure’.  (In Re: Right to Privacy of Adolescent)

On Thursday the Kerala High Court directed the Ernakulam District and Sessions Judge to conduct a fact-finding enquiry into the allegations raised by the survivor of the 2017 actress assault case regarding unauthorized access to the memory card which allegedly contains footage of the assault.  (xxxx v State of Kerala & Ors.)
  24. On Thursday the Kerala High Court passed a slew of guidelines for law enforcement agencies, courts and other authorities to ensure protection of the digital evidence containing sexually explicit materials.
