  1. Today The Supreme Court reserved its judgment in a plea filed by the State of Uttar Pradesh seeking the transfer of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari from Punjab’s Ropar jail to UP’s Ghazipur jail.
  2. As Tamil Nadu looks forward to the Legislative Council elections in April, in the Madras High Court various applicants have different concerns about the conduct of the elections.
  3. Today The Supreme Court ruled that total seats reserved in favour of Scheduled Castes s/Scheduled Tribes (SC/STs) and Other Backward Castes (OBCs) in local bodies should not exceed 50 percent of the total seats.
  4. An affidavit filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stating that it did not hold a public meeting or a rally in the State during the COVID-19 scandal has provoked the Karnataka High Court’s claim that it was false because Bench had photographs against the ruling party’s version.
  5. Dalit activist Shiv Kumar, who was arrested along with activist Nodeep Kaur during protests against certain factory owners, has been granted bail by the Sonipat tribunal.
  6. Today The Delhi High Court Bar Association informed the Delhi High Court that an overwhelming majority of its members supported the resumption of physical hearings.
  7. The five-judge Constitutional Court of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice of India SA Bobde today proposed the introduction of an interim law to create additional courts that try to deal with assault cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
  8. The Governor of Haryana, Satyadeo Narain Arya on Tuesday approved the Haryana Local Government Employment Bill, 2020 which authorizes private companies to provide 75% of employees working in the Haryana State with monthly salary increments of no more than Rs. 50,000.
  9. Today The Delhi High Court directed the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) to file a status report on action taken against media channels that are not members of the News Broadcasting Standards Association (NBSA) for violations of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act on the complaint moved by actor Rakul Preet.
  10. The Uttarakhand High Court, under Chief Justice Raghuvendra Singh Chauhan, has filed a software application called the District Court Performance Monitoring Tool (DCPMT) to monitor the performance of law enforcement officials in Uttarakhand.
  11. Today The Delhi High Court emphasised that there has to be a “sense of urgency” in respect of COVID-19 vaccination within the country and directed the Central government to file an affidavit explaining the rationale behind allowing vaccinations only for persons who are above 60 years of age or are above 45 years with co-morbidities.
  12. The Supreme Court today ruled that programs should be tested on more platforms (OTT) such as Amazon Prime and Netflix. This is according to a pending bail application filed by the Head of India Prime Video, Aparna Purohit in the case against him in connection with the web series ‘Tandav’.
  13. Today The Bombay High Court granted protection from arrest to a rape accused after it was discovered that the parties have “settled the dispute/discord amongst themselves”.
  14. The management of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has moved to the Bombay High Court seeking a reversal of an order dated 16 December 2020 where the Court granted a temporary stay on the transfer of 102 hectares of land from Kanjurmarg to MMRDA by carrying out work on the Metro Car Shed Project.
  15. Today The Supreme Court issued notice in an appeal which questions whether a moratorium imposed on a company under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) would bar further proceedings under Section 27 of the Consumer Protection Act.
  16. On Wednesday The Madras High Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought directions for continuing the awards given by Central Institute of Classical Tamil to encourage Tamil scholars.
  17. The Kerala High Court has sought a response from the Kerala Government in a petition challenging the December 2020 order issued by the Malappuram District Program Manager of the National Health Mission ordering that the monthly salary of staff nurses be restricted to the number of days spent per month.
  18. On Wednesday The Madras High Court declined to entertain allegations concerning recent deaths due to manual scavenging in the absence of an appropriate application.
  19. On Monday The Jammu and Kashmir High Court granted interim anticipatory bail until March 18 to a Gujarat resident accused of attacking the religion of and sending obscene messages to Shehla Rashid via social media.
  20. The Delhi High Court has registered a suo motu community (PIL) case against the COVID-19 vaccine for judges, court staff and lawyers first.
  21. Yesterday The Supreme Court strongly pitched the proposal to establish additional courts for tackling the burgeoning pendency of cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
  22. Yesterday The Punjab government strongly contested the prayer made by Uttar Pradesh (UP) government before the Supreme Court seeking transfer of UP Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Mukhtar Ansari from Ropar jail in Punjab to Ghazipur jail in UP.
  23. On Wednesday The Supreme Court upheld the Delhi government’s 2016 decision to cancel the selection process held between 2014-15 by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board given the systemic irregularities found in the process.
  24. On Wednesday The Bombay High Court directed 2008 Malegaon Blasts case accused Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit to ensure that the documents upon which he relies to make his arguments are served upon the opposite parties before such arguments are made.
  25. An application has been lodged with the Supreme Court for guidance on the appointment of a full-time Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The post has remained vacant since Rishi Kumar Shukla retired on February 2.
  26. On Thursday The Supreme Court issued notice in an appeal filed by businessman Daulat Samirmal Mehta, who challenged the bail condition imposed by Bombay High Court directing him to pay a sum total of ₹25 crore to effectuate his release.
  27. Expressing his hope that the Court’s time should not be wasted, the Madras High Court recently dismissed an application to allow the accused to be allowed to apply for a photograph of Dr. Ambedkar on Traffic Island at Light House Corner in Karur District.
  28. The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Thursday arrested the Central Government in establishing the GST Appellate Tribunal in the UP Province without the Court’s approval.
  29. The Karnataka High Court has recommended in its register that it take immediate steps to appoint a Chief Justice in a designated court that can be referred to all 56 cases in the Bangaluru Urban district under the Illegal Prevention Act (1967).
  30. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ruled that commercial matters relating to Arbitration disputes can only be heard by the Regional Court of Commerce or the Additional District Court.

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday also refused to allow the 2008 explosion of Malegaon on suspicion of Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit submitting certain ‘confidential’ documents related to his performance in the Indian Army, for recording, without giving a copy to the intruder, the victim of the explosion.

The Delhi High Court recently refused to apply to a professor accused of seeking clues from the state governments of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi to take certain steps to combat the expected water shortage in Delhi, telling the applicant that “experts” three governments had already considered the matter and that he himself was not ” the most authoritarian government”.

While discussing the ‘big question’ regarding ‘installation of towers in residential building’, the Punjab and Haryana High Courts on Wednesday (03 March) ordered the Punjab Government not to allow the installation of towers in residential buildings until further notice (such as a temporary measure).
  36. A single judge bench of Justice Jayant Nath of the Delhi High Court has directed search engine major Google to suspend the advertising account of travel booking website, on its Ad Words programme, where companies bid for keywords to appear on top of Google’s search results.
  37. In a significant move, the Punjab & Haryana High Court has issued a note requesting the Members of the Bar to avoid addressing Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi as ‘Your Lordship’ Or ‘My Lord’.
  38. The Bombay High Court has asked Maharashtra state government to deal with complaints regarding fee hike in schools on a case-to-case basis, while disposing off a clutch of petitions by private unaided schools challenging a Government Resolution from May 8, 2020. The GR barred private unaided schools from increasing their fees for the academic year 2020-21, in view of the pandemic.
  39. Vide Office Order dated 02nd March, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has informed that the Chief Justice of the High Court has constituted ‘National Law University, Advisory Committee’ to look after the matters pertaining to Himachal Pradesh National Law University
  40. Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar who has accused actor Kangana Ranaut of criminal defamation, filed a Caveat in the Supreme Court in the actor, and her sister, Rangoli Chandel’s transfer petition.
  41. The Delhi High Court has dismissed a petition raising grievances against the functioning of the National Company Law Tribunal and Appellate Tribunal, for using slang language in the petition draft.
