  1. Todays the Madras High Court directed the Tamil Nadu government to create a Press Council of Tamil Nadu which would act as a State-level media regulatory body, With a view to tackle fake journalists, paid news and ill-intentioned media personnel and associations.
  2. Today the Supreme Court’s Justice DY Chandrachud came at a seminar organised by the Chembur Karnataka College of Law in memory of jurist, diplomat, Cabinet Minister and former Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Justice MC Chagla, Justice DY Chandrachud emphasised on the need for truth in a democracy.
  3. Today The Madras High Court recently acquitted a man accused of rape upon finding that the complainant had not resisted at the first time of the alleged sexual assault, which the Court opined in this case amounted to pre-consent.
  4. Today A man accused in the Jantar Mantar anti-Muslim sloganeering case has been denied anticipatory bail by a Delhi Court, Court has observed that he cannot absolve himself of all responsibility for the “inflammatory and incendiary” content in the speeches allegedly made during the event.
  5. Today A Lucknow court has sent former Indian Police Services (IPS) officer Amitabh Thakur, who was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly abetting the suicide of a woman who immolated herself outside the Supreme Court, to judicial custody till September 9.
  6. On Wednesday A Delhi Court granted bail to a man accused of committing gang rape on his wife and pronouncing talaq in contravention of Section 4 of the Muslim Woman (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.

  10. Today The Supreme Court of India has clarified that its earlier order of September 2020 regarding speedy trial of cases against legislators will not apply to criminal appeals pending in High Courts against conviction of such MPs/ MLAs.

  18. Yesterday The Himachal Pradesh High Court held that once a party has died, his/her death certificate cannot be termed a ‘Third Party Information’ as per Section 11 of the Right to Information Act, as that information relates/related only to the deceased.

  20. Yesterday A Special CBI Court in Kerala presided by judge K. Sanil Kumar dismissed a private complaint seeking action against the CBI officials involved in the ISRO espionage case investigation. The complaint was filed alleging commission of offences under Sections 7, 8 and 9 of the Prevention of Corruption Act read with Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code.
