Today The Central government has asserted before the Delhi High Court that the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (IT Rules, 2021) is well within the scope of the Information Technology Act (IT Act), 2000, that it is does not infringe any fundamental rights and that there is little evidence to show that they have had a chilling effect on the right to freedom of speech.
