  1. Today The Madras High Court dismissed a writ petition moved by Kollywood actor, Vijay in 2012 seeking to restrain tax authorities from demanding or collecting entry tax on a ‘Rolls Royce Ghost’ car that was imported from England.  
  2. Today The Kerala High Court ruled that any deduction from the pension of employees towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund must be made only if such employees give specific consent for the same.
  3. Today The Karnataka High Court opined that though law of limitation is not strictly applicable to petitions filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, such rights cannot be enforced after an unreasonable lapse of time.
  4. Today The Pune Police informed the Bombay High Court that the petition filed by Bhima Koregaon accused Rona Wilson challenging the sanction granted by the Maharashtra government was premature and should be raised at the time of trial of the case.

Today The Karnataka High Court deferred the pronouncement of its judgment in the petition filed by Twitter’s Manish Maheshwari challenging the notice issued to him under Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) by the Uttar Pradesh Police in relation to the Ghaziabad assault video.

Today The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has held that the act of an accused to take off his own and victim’s trousers, in the absence of penetration, does not amount to ‘attempt to rape’ within the meaning of Section 376/511 of IPC the Court has said that the act may amount to sexual assault under Section 7/8 of POCSO Act.

Today Dealing with a PIL filed by Jagannathpur Mandir Nyas Samittee seeking permission to perform/celebrate the ritual/festival of Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra in Ranchi on July 12 and 20, 2021, the Jharkhand High Court asked the State Government to “take its own decision” keeping in mind Supreme Court’s directions.

Today The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has opposed the petition filed by former Secretary to Kerala PWD, TO Sooraj, seeking to quash the FIR registered against him in the Palarivattom Flyover Scam case, The agency asserted that it has obtained the requisite prior approval under Prevention of Corruption Act, for investigating accused officers.
